!Welcome! 4L-CARE is the repository to share and contribute to research on LLLL (Later-Life Language Learning). The goal of this repository is that practical considerations around research design on LLLL can become more accessible for researchers and practitioners which can help promote replicability of new research, and it will save researchers time and resources in designing and conducting their studies. 4L-CARE operates much in the same way as Wikipedia, in the sense that any page can be updated by anyone. This means that anyone is allowed to either make a new page that fits within the two broader themes of ‘research’ and ‘education’, or edit an existing page. The wish is that you will find useful material to help you with your research as well as share your experience and knowledge in order to enrich the repository and contribute to the rapidly developing LLLL field. !Guidelines for 4L-CARE {FANCYLIST()} 1)__ Register an account, if desired. __ To make the threshold for participation in the repository as low as possible, we will initially not make registration mandatory for viewers or users who want to edit pages. However, we strongly encourage users to register, as seeing who has made an edit also makes further conversation about a topic easier, effectively strengthening participants’ networks. 2)__ Cite, wherever relevant. __ While the repository aims to give information about practical matters encountered during the course of one’s research, these discussions can often be strengthened by attributing them to a source. This source can be another academic publication (e.g., one showing that eye-tracking research can be done in people with glaucoma), but it can also be unpublished data (e.g., response accuracy before and after implementing a longer fixation duration from a pilot study). 3) __Add, but acknowledge others’ work. __ Here we mirror Wikipedia’s ‘be bold, not reckless’ editing policy. Smaller changes that are not likely to be controversial (e.g., copy-editing a sentence, adding onto an existing section without removing content that is already present) can be made freely. However, sometimes a contributor may disagree with the contents of an existing article. In those cases, it is advisable to use a discussion board that is tied to a specific page beforehand in order to confer with the other contributors. {FANCYLIST} !!Get started. {FANCYLIST()} 1) You may choose to create your account or continue as an external user. 2) Feel free to edit existing pages or to add a new page altogether on any LLLL-related subject that you have knowledge of. If you want to see which topics could use additional information, or if you would like to request a page on a particular subject, go to the Wiki request page. {FANCYLIST} !! Wiki requests Anyone with knowledge and expertise on later-life language learning is invited to edit and add pages on the 4L-CARE repository. There is the possibility to add comments at the end of each page in order for readers and contributors to request additional information on specific topics. An example of topics that can be addressed are: {FANCYLIST()} 1) fMRI with older adults 2) fNIRS with older adults 3) Which language to teach older adults? 4) Context-dependence in LLLL (i.e., the focus on WEIRD participants) !!References and additional reading on TikiWiki For more information on TikiWiki : *[https://tiki.org/Introduction|Learn more about Tiki]. *[https://tiki.org/|Get help], including the [http://doc.tiki.org|official documentation] and [http://tiki.org/forums|support forums]. *[https://tiki.org/Join|Join the Tiki community].
